The cost to attend California State University this fall could rise by 30 percent compared with the year just ended, an increase experts said could drive students out of school. Facing cuts in state funding, CSU trustees raised student fees by 10 percent in May – from $3,849 for the 2008-09 year to $4,234 for 2009-10. In a discussion Tuesday about how CSU will handle further state budget cuts, Chancellor Charles B. Reed said the university may hike fees another 15 percent to 20 percent for the coming fall.
