Riverside City College is planning to reduce class offerings by 12 percent this fall to help alleviate a budget deficit of up to $7 million next school year, RCC President Jan Muto said Thursday. RCC department heads are preparing for 5 to 20 percent cuts, but layoffs are not currently being considered, Muto said after speaking at a Riverside Chambers of Commerce breakfast meeting at The Tamale Factory in Riverside. Depending on the final state budget solution, RCC, which has a more than a $70 million budget, could face a deficit anywhere from $3 million to $7 million for the 2009/10 fiscal year, which started Wednesday, Muto said.
