Higher education officials yet to take a stand on ATKT

PUNE: The state department for higher education
is yet to take a position on the allowed-to-keep-term (ATKT) benefit, announced last week by the

minister for school education, for Std X and XII students, who have failed in two subjects, in the state education board's March 2009 examinations. The ATKT benefit is guided by the objective that the students do not lose an academic year and get two chances to clear their remaining subjects in October 2009 and March 2010 exams while simultaneously pursuing their studies
at Std XI or first-year degree course levels, as the case may be. A decision to this effect, announced by school education minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil on Friday, has generated tremendous curiosity vis-a-vis government's plan to accommodate the ATKT-beneficiaries, particularly at the senior college level where the admission process is almost over.
