Virginia's colleges and universities asked to plan for budget cuts - Timothy M. Kaine, Daily Press

The colleges and universities, and state agencies, have been asked to prepare proposals to pare the state-funded portion of their budgets by 5, 10 and 15 percent and submit those plans to the governor by July 22. "They're asking for a plan at this point," said Cynthia Perry, Christopher Newport University's chief of staff. Perry said the cuts would range from $1.2 million to $3.6 million for CNU, which like its sister institutions has seen state support dwindle in recent years as the Commonwealth grapples with declining revenues.
